New Ghana coach Kwasi Appiah made a winning start to his second stint as head coach of the Black Stars leading the local Black Stars to a 5-0 friendly win over lower-tier Accra Lions on Wednesday at Prampram.

Richard Arthur, who signed for Kumasi Asante Kotoko bagged a brace for the local Black Stars to hand Appiah an emphatic win after his unveiling on Tuesday in Accra.

The leading scorer of the Ghana Premier League, Nicholas Gyan of Ebusua Dwarfs gave the Stars a 1-0 lead at recess before Arthur’s brace as well as goals by Tema Youth captain Joseph Paintsil and Asante Kotoko winger Emmanuel Gyamfi settled the tie in the second half.

Appiah and his new-look backroom are observing 30 local-based players at the Ghanaman Soccer School of Excellence ahead of the 2018 CHAN qualifier against Burkina Faso in August and the 2017 WAFU Nations Cup in September.
