The attacker’s good showing for Newcastle United has been lauded by the Black Stars’ assistant coach.

Ghana assistant coach Maxwell Konadu has hailed Christian Atsu’s performance for English side Newcastle United this season.

The on-loan winger played a vital role as the Magpies secured promotion to the Premier League last month.

In 32 Championship appearances involving 15 starts, Atsu netted five times, assisting three other goals.

“People have argued that England is not good for Atsu but he has his own style of play and I think when the opportunity was given to him, he grabbed it well,” Konadu told Citi TV.

“Atsu has been wonderful especially when it comes to the national team.

“Even if he is not doing well at club level, when it comes to the national team, it is a different ball game altogether.

“So I am not surprised he is doing well with Newcastle United.”

With the season now ended, Atsu is currently back with parent club Chelsea amid talks to join Rafael Benitez’s outfit on a permanent deal.

Reports say Chelsea are demanding £6.5 million to let go of the Ghana international, who was signed from Portuguese giants Porto in 2013.

The 25-year-old has also had loan stints at Bournemouth, Everton, Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem and Spanish outfit Malaga.
