The Ministry of Food and Agriculture will on Monday, May 8 begin a nationwide tour to meet stakeholders over the government’s flagship programme in the sector, Planting for Foods and Jobs.

The tour will involve all the ministers in the sector and it will take eight days. A release from the Ministry signed by Issah Alhassan, Press Secretary to the sector minister, said: “The move forms part of efforts by the Ministry to sensitize the public and also holds broader base consultation on how to achieve the objective of increasing food production and creating jobs for the teeming youth of this country”.

“It will also afford the Ministry the opportunity to tap ideas and address concerns of players in the industry in order to enhance smooth implementation of the program.” The three deputy ministers as well as the Minister of State at the Ministry, Dr Gyiele Nurah, will spearhead the trip with specific responsibilities.

Deputy Minister Dr Sagri Babangi will handle the Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions while George Boahen Oduro will handle the Western and Central Regions.

Eastern and Volta regions will be handled by another deputy minister, William Agyapong Quaitto with Dr Nurah handling the three northern regions.

“They are expected to spend eight days on the trip and would hold meetings with district agric directors and recognized farmers’ associations at the various districts they would be visiting.”

The Planting for Food and Jobs was launched by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr Afriyie Osei Akoto on Wednesday, April 19 at Goaso in the Brong Ahafo Region.
