Vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia has donated GH¢300,000 to support the completion of the Central Regional mosque in Cape Coast.

He made the donation when he joined Muslims in the celebration of the 25th National Da’wa of Ahlussunna Wal Jama’a in Cape Coast over the weekend.

The celebration was on the theme, ‘Religion as a guide for political advancement.’

Making the donation, Dr Bawumia said the current Akufo-Addo administration would pass a law to make Zongo Development Fund binding to ensure its sustainability so that there would always be funds available to implement their activities.

The Deputy National Chief Imam, Sheikh Mohammed Kamil Mohammed, stressed the need for Ghanaians to disregard any false information attributed to Muslims, especially the Ahlussunna Wal Jama’a, adding that Muslims are very peaceful people.

Sheikh Mohammed stated that Islam abhors violence and that some people want to tarnish the image of the Muslims.

He advised politicians to shun politics of insults and address issues appropriately to promote national development.

Sheikh Mohammed reiterated their commitment to supporting the government’s policies in the areas of education and health.

The Regional Imam of Ahlussunna Wal Jama’a, Sheikh Abubakari Ibrahim, said a special fundraising would be held to ensure that all Muslim children in the region have access to formal education alongside religious training to produce God-fearing citizens to fight corruption to ensure the socio-economic development of the country.

Sheikh Ibrahim disclosed that Ahlussunna Wal Jama’a  is solidly behind the government in its fight against illegal mining, which has severely destroyed lands and water bodies.

“With the kind of momentum gathered, we believe that this government is not going to relent until our lands and water bodies are saved,” he added.
