Chief Denies Galamsey Cash

The chief of Akyem Senkubenase in the Atiwa District of the Eastern Region, Osabarima Asiedu Boafo II, has described allegation of extortion   against him as concocted by some people of the town to disgrace him.

Some residents of Akyem Senkubenase recently alleged that Osabarima Asiedu Boafo brought some illegal miners, including Chinese, to the town and took huge amounts of money from them before permitting them to mine gold in the area.

According to them, after receiving concession returns from the miners, the chief failed to render account to the community. They said he had not embarked on any developmental project out of the proceeds either. They said they demanded accountability from the chief but to no avail. Meanwhile, the chief has vehemently dismissed the allegation that he had received monies from illegal miners.

Addressing a press confab, Osabarima Asiedu Boafo II said the queen mother of Akyem Senkubenase, Obaahemaa Nsia Boasiako, disrespects him and has been plotting numerous evil schemes against him to cover up her own misdeeds.

Osabarima revealed that the queen mother, not long ago, insulted all the elders of Senkubenase and has since refused to render apology. He added that she has always been assisted by one Paa Willie in carrying out her evil plots.

According to Osabarima Asiedu Boafo II, there are no galamsey operations currently going on at Senkubenase. “The Minerals Commission gave out land of about 28 square kilometers on concession to a minerals company called ULTIMATE MINING, and for about four years now they have not been operating on the land, even though excavators and mining equipment belonging to them are seen on the land. Osabarima further asserted that the queen mother, Paa Willie and another man called Freeman have always been in the frontline in the sale of lands to illegal miners in the area.
