A Ghanaian asylum seeker in Germany has been arrested for raping a woman, while her boyfriend watched.

The 31-year-old was arrested at Bonn Saturday after approaching the couple with a machete on April 2, 2017.

The 23-year-old victim and her boyfriend were accosted  by the Ghanaian at Siegaue Nature Reserve on the outskirts of Bonn during a camping, local media reported.

The police were called by the victim’s boyfriend after the incident, and his partner taken to the hospital.

The suspect whose name was not given was arrested  near Siegburg following a tip-off.

DNA testing matched the Ghanaian to the crime scene.

Police spokesman Robert Scholten is quoted by the German media as saying “Apart from the rape itself, we also found lots of DNA samples at the scene, which clearly belong to the detained person.”
