Afrimax Group, operators of Busy in Ghana, has launched its youth empowerment project.
The company rebranded to Busy in 2016 as part of measures to launch 4G services in Accra and Tema.
According to Busy, the project would help management to solve graduate unemployment in the country and sub-region.
The project comprises graduate development programme, student brand ambassador programme and an online educational platform referred to as JUMP.
Speaking at the launch of the project, which was held at Kempinski Hotel, Gold Coast City, Accra on Friday, Praveen Sadalage, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Busy, averred that the company’s strategy would focus on the youth.
“About 60-70 percent of the population in this country is below 25, signaling an impressive pool of talent and immense capacity just waiting to be tapped into and the current trend in the use of digital media among our growing young population fully underscores the vital importance of supporting this segment,” he noted.
According to him, Busy, which has received multiples of awards for excellent performance, has operations in Ghana, Zambia, Cameroon and Uganda.
The company is privileged to be identified by industry players as the next generation operator of 4G LTE, and is currently partnering over 1,500 students from over 40 universities and colleges in Africa across its markets.
Mr. Sadalage further disclosed that Busy has also recruited some of the best and brightest graduates.
Head of Marketing, Linda Narh explained that JUMP would provide free access to educational content through the creation of an e-library and an environment, where young and upcoming entrepreneurs would be supported through various initiatives.
Deputy Minister of Education-designate, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, who represented the sector minister, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, said the project would give undergraduate and graduates the opportunity to gain valuable work experience.
Dr. Osei Adutwum, who is also the proprietor of a number of private schools in Los Angeles in US, added that the introduction of the online portal is a welcome relief to government, parents and industry at large.
