Barcelona’s title hopes suffered a serious blow as they suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat to Deportivo La Coruna, meaning Real Madrid can claim top spot later this evening.

Luis Enrique’s side looked tired for much of the match, with Depor making the most of that weariness to claim three points that will boost their own chances of avoiding relegation from the Spanish top flight.

The hosts took the lead after 40 minutes when Joselu bundled home at the back post following a fumbled save by Barcelona goalkeeper Marc Andre ter Stegen, only for the Catalans to restore parity just seconds into the second half when Luis Suarez volleyed home an instinctive finish.

But Deportivo La Coruna responded well to conceding the equaliser and regained their composure, striking what proved to be the winner when Alex Bergantinos climbed above Jordi Alba to head home from a corner kick.
