Black Stars and Columbus Crew defender Jonathan Mensah says he is ready for his first season in the MLS which starts on Saturday.

He joined Columbus Crew from Russian side Azhi Makachkala earlier this year and he is one of the team’s high profile signings.

Mensah will come face-to-face with fellow Black Stars player, David Accam and the Chicago Fire on the opening day of the season and he says he wants to do his best for the fans and for the team.

“This season will be great for the team. We cannot wait to give the fans what they deserve. They have been following us on social media but they will see live at the Mapfre Stadium and we are going to give them a good show because that is what they pay for,” Mensah said

“We need to show our best in every home match for them.went to say that it was important for him to show experience and guidance to the other defenders in the team especially in the first game of the season.”

“It is very, very crucial for myself and for my colleagues because when they see me going in very hard. When they see that I am alive, they become alive too. I will go out and set a good example and when the others follow, everything will go right for the team.”

On facing David Accam, Mensah said: “Accam plays with me in the national team and he is a good player. Ghanaians will follow this game closely because we are like brothers and we will face each other. I have received a lot of messages from different people and we cannot wait for the game.”

Mensah is one of four Ghanaians in the Crew team (with Harrison Afful, Mohammed Abu, and Lalas Abubakar).
