Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, says Ghanaians are waiting for the Vice President’s “economic miracles” in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government’s maiden budget statement.

According to him, the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has over the years touted himself as the only person who knows economics and has solutions to Ghana’s problems.

Mr Adongo thinks this claim must reflect in the budget presentation on Thursday.

Isaac Adongo who is also a Financial Analyst was speaking Wednesday on Adom FM’s BURNING ISSUES hosted by Afia Pokua ahead of the budget presentation.

Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta is expected to present the NPP government’s first budget, in Parliament [Thursday] March 02, 2017.

Already, the Finance Minister has hinted that some levies which have been described as “nuisance taxes” will be removed when he presents the 2017 budget.

The Budget presentation would also be expected to spell out sources of funding for a number of NPP’s promised policies including free senior high school (SHS) and reduction in fuel and utility tariff and revive the Ghanaian economy.

The Bolgatanga Central legislature believes that the government must fulfill all the promises NPP gave to Ghanaians during the campaign.

Contributing to ahead of the budget presentation, a senior economics lecturer at the Kumasi Technical University, Dr. Thomas Kusi Boafo said although the fundamentals of the economy are very weak, the government must be prudent and honest to Ghanaians in the budget statement.

He added that the budget must restore confidence in the country’s economy to investors.

“Ghana’s economy is still in intensive care, but the government must be truthful to the people” the Economist said.
