Dele Alli scored two headers as Tottenham put an end to Chelsea’s bid for a topflight record of 14 straight victories in the same season courtesy of a 2-0 success over the leaders at White Hart Lane.

The in-form Alli notched his third consecutive double with clinical finishes either side of half time as the Lilywhites moved up to third to reignite their own title hopes with a fifth win on the bounce.

It means Chelsea remain five points clear of second-placed Liverpool with Mauricio Pochettino’s men two further back, ahead of Manchester City on goal difference.

Spurs had seen their title hopes ended at Stamford Bridge last season as well as their unbeaten start this term, so denying the Blues a record will be extra sweet, particularly as it breathes life into a race that had threatened to turn into a procession.
