VOiCE Ends Community Outreach Exercise…On Ebola And Cholera Campaign In Ayawaso East


VOiCE in Community Empowerment, a Non- Governmental Organisation (NGO) organized a cleanup exercise as well as ebola-free campaign to improve the living conditions of people in the Ayawaso East area.

Members of VOiCE as part of its activities engaged the people of Nima-Maamobi particularly women to educate them about the need for personal hygiene, community hygiene, environmental pollution, cholera outbreak as well as ebola prevention with support of someMuslim nurses.

During the campaign, posters, stickers, fliers were distributed to every household and shops along the streets to serve as a reminder for ensuring the proper practice of personal and community hygiene.

VOiCE however climax the outreach program with a cleanup exercise in the Nima-Maamobi communities, the focus was to significantly achieve a cholera-free and healthy community.

VOiCE, in collaboration with Millennium Cities Initiative (MCI), Colombia University, USA, Global Communities (formerly CHF), The Great Africa Supporters Union and Zoomlion Ghana Ltd had members heavily attended to sanitize the communities.

Members went into every households with brooms and rakes toevacuate waste and heaps of rubbished that were sitting in the communities for over months causing air pollution with a strong unbearable stench.

Meanwhile, women whohad a hint about the cleanup exercise quickly began to pile heaps of rubbishes in front of their house for conveyance by the team.

The founder and Board Chairman, VOiCE, Ahmed Mustapha Yaajalaal told Punch that over years VOiCE have, in collaboration with MCI organized a community youth forum that brought many youth leaders within Nima-Maamobi community to brainstorm on the challenges and difficulties facing the youth and community at large.

According to him, they held the Annual Midwives’ celebration with the Greater Accra Midwives Association with targeted girls, young and adult ladies in the community to educate them on maternal, reproductive health and family planning.

Ahmed Mustapha Yaajalaal also known as Shaban added that during the Ramadan festival period, they with support from MCI organized an effective “Pre-Ramadan” clean up exercise in collaboration with waste management company, zoolion and Nima-Maamobi Mothers’ Club.

VOiCE is a non-political, non-religious and non-profit youth organisation (NGO) aimed at facilitating the implementation of socio-economic and developmental projects in the East Ayawaso Sub-metro area through concerted volunteerism from their capable and committed youth.
