Boy, 9, dies in accident; Agbagorme residents angry

A nine year old boy, Richmond Gati has died after he was knocked down by a bus at Agbagorme in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region, Friday.

The accident infuriated residents who claim they have needlessly lost six lives on that stretch of road in the last six months.

According to Joy News’ Volta Region correspondent Ivy Setordzie tens of angry residents converged at the spot where Richmond Gati was run over early this morning in protest over the absence of speed ramps.

The accident and protest created a huge vehicular traffic on the Accra-Aflao road which took several hours to subside.

The residents demanded to see the District Chief Executive and the Member of Parliament before they would vacate the road.

It took a combined team of police and military personnel to convince the residents to return home assuring that measures will be taken to address their grievances.

The driver of the bus which knocked down the boy is in police custody.

The residents have vowed to return with a full blown demonstration on Monday if their concerns are not addressed.
