The Upper East Regional Dress Making Trainers Association under the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA) has threatened to sue the Asongtaba Cottage Industry and Exchange Programme if it continues to ignore calls from members of the Association to pay monies owed them for training some youth under the GYEEDA Programme.
According to the Association, in June 2012, the Asongtaba Cottage Industry and Exchange Programme, a company based in Accra, in line with government’s quest to create jobs for the youth, engaged members of the Association to train a number of youth in the various districts of the Upper East Region under the Dress Making Model of GYEEDA.
They said that Asongtaba Cottage Industry and Exchange Programme had failed to pay their arrears after several months.
The Chairman of the Upper East Regional Dress Making Trainers Association, Stephen Akromah gave the hint at a news conference held in Bolgatanga.
According to the Chairman, despite the contract between the members of the Association and Asongtaba Cottage Industry and Exchange Programme, monies to cover three months had been paid since 2013, adding that the Association made frantic efforts to get the monies to enable the members to repay their loans.
Mr. Akromah urged Asongtaba Cottage Industry and Exchange Programme to pay the arrears to enable the dressmakers to pay for equipment they bought to provide quality training to the trainees as part of an agreement.
The Project Manager of Asongtaba Cottage Industries and Exchange Programme, Faisal Keliou, in a reaction to the news conference, said the delay in the payment of the arrears to the service providers was due to the refund of monies to the State.
He noted that some Service Providers in other regions had been paid and assured those in the Upper East region that they would be paid by the end of June 2014.
He also expressed disappointment with the stance of the members, noting that his outfit met the Association in January 2014 and agreed on the time the monies would be paid to them.
