VEEP Directs Appointees To Work Hard

Vice-President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has directed all government appointees to work to ensure the implementation and attainment of the government’s Better Ghana Agenda it promised the people.

He said no excuse will be accepted and deviations will not be tolerated.

The Vice-President gave the directive when he opened the Second Regional Ministers’ Conference at Busua in the Western Region.

He said the Better Ghana Agenda is not an agenda for the President alone but has become a national agenda for which the people voted the NDC into government.

The three-day Regional Ministers’ Conference is focusing on redefining the role of the regional level in the governance architecture. It will look at six thematic areas.

They are the consolidated local government bill, the draft national development planning commission regulations, GYEEDA, district level elections, national security, and implementing the Better Ghana Agenda.

Vice-President Amissah-Arthur said Regional Ministers and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives are key frontline implementers of the government’s Better Ghana Agenda.

He therefore charged them to devote some time during the conference to discuss the interventions President Mahama promised in his state of the nation address last year. They must also look at the extent they have played their roles in ensuring their implementation.

The Vice-President tasked the Regional Ministers and the MMDCES, who are heads of their regional security councils and the district security committees, to be vigilant and proactive as the sixth district level elections draw closer.

The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Akwasi Opong-Fosu, said in spite of the challenges last year, resources were transferred to all the MMDAS by the ministry to pursue development projects and programmes. This, he said, has yielded dividends at the local level.

Mr Opong-Fosu said his recent visit to some regions revealed that the MMDAS are doing very well in the delivery of basic social infrastructure to the people.
