Role Of The Media Is Not Limited To Entertain, Inform And Educate—Former Brong Ahafo Regional Director For GBC

Mr. Leonard Amengo, Former Director of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) in the Brong Ahafo region has called on media organisations and Journalists to see themselves as partners in development.

Mr. Amengo was addressing Media Practitioners from the region at an inauguration of Media Accountability Network on local governance held at Dormaa-Ahenkro.

He said, role of the media is not limited to entertain, inform and educate. “They should step up education on district assembly concept to empower citizens to make meaningful contributions towards development at the local levels.”

He noted that the assemblies would appreciate the work of the media and the network in particular, if practitioners execute their work without being “in-bed” with them.

Mr. Amengor appealed to Star-Ghana to organise an award scheme for Journalists in Brong Ahafo and other developing areas. He said he was very sad not to see any media practitioner from the region to grab an award at the just-ended Ghana Journalists Association Awards.

Mrs. Lamisi Dabire, Media Officer at STAR-Ghana who inaugurated the network, asked members to be responsive in order to achieve their set goals. “To strengthen the media, we have signed grant agreement with 23 media houses in Ghana, to help media work responsibly and enhance capacity building.”
