Alan K’s massive grassroots support will be a game changer – Ohene Ntow

The Spokesperson for the Alan Kyerematen campaign is confident the massive grassroots support he enjoys will tilt the scales in his favour in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) October 18 congress to elect a flagbearer.

According to Nana Ohene Ntow, the delegates at the grassroots will vote for Mr. Kyerematen because they believe he is the only one who can bring the NPP back to power.

Alan Kyerematen though part of those shortlisted for the presidential primaries performed poorly in Sunday’s Super Delegates’ congress to prune down the number of aspirants from seven to five.

He obtained 59 votes out of 740 ballots cast; representing 7.98 percent while Nana Akufo-Addo polled 598 votes representing 80.78 per cent.

The others including Francis Addai-Nimoh and Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joe Ghartey, obtained 22 votes each, which is 2.98 percent of total votes cast. Kofi Osei Ameyaw had 16 votes, which is 2.17 percent.

Basing their argument on the margin of victory, some leading members have called on the other three aspirants to bow out of the race for Nana Akufo-Addo to be affirmed flagbearer for the 2016 elections. Joe Ghartey has announced he is not going for the October 18 elections.

But speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, Nana Ohene Ntow said such arguments are flawed.

He noted that the less than one percent Electoral College which voted cannot be representative of the thousands of delegates who will vote on October 18.

“Most of the people who voted in Sunday’s elections were Nana-biased, but the Alan has massive support in the expanded Electoral College because he is a grassroots person,” he stressed.

The former NPP General Secretary called on the party leadership to ensure a level playing field for all candidates because “this time we will not succumb to any intimation”.

“We had reports of people being intimidated to vote a certain way during the super delegates congress, but we will not allow that to happen again,” he cautioned.

Nana Ohene Ntow is convinced his candidate will be crowned flagbearer by the delegates at the grassroots who are hungry for power. Story by Ghana/Adomonline.com/Adwoa Gyasiwaa
