An Alleged voice recording of Bishop Daniel Obinim, founder of Godsway International Ministry, smashing the glass door to enter the studios of Hot FM – an Accra-based radio station – has been tendered in evidence in an Accra High Court where the bishop and his two associate pastors – Kingsley Baah and Kofi Akwetey – are on trial for allegedly vandalising the property of the station and for assault.
It was tendered in evidence in a court presided over by Justice Abdulai Iddrisu, by the investigator in the case, detective Inspector Bismark Adu gyamfi.
The witness, who was continuing his examination in-chief led by state attorney Rita Doko, claimed that a voice of the pastor could be heard on the tape saying,
‘Aden nti na mo sei nipa din saa?’, which means, ‘Why are you soiling people’s reputation?’
However, attempts to play the tape in court proved futile.
The case has been adjourned to October 14, 2014 for a continuation of the evidence of the witness and for the defects in the tape to be rectified.
The crowbar said to have been used by Obinim was tendered in court at the last hearing.
The investigator had explained that the said crowbar was not found at the scene of the crime, but was later handed over to him by the Counter non-Commissioned Officer at the Adabraka Police Station where the case was initially reported.
The investigator, who also tendered pictures of the broken glasses said to have been smashed by the three suspects, said the three allegedly stormed the studio where the programme, ‘Nya Asem Hwe’, was being aired.
The witness told the court he took pictures of the said crime scene which he also tendered to the court in evidence.
The accused persons reportedly vandalised property, including transmitters and amplifiers to the tune of GH¢130,580.
Kwame Ntim Katakyie, host of the programme ‘Nya Asem Hwe’, had testified in the trial.
He told the court that Obinim held the crowbar in his hand and tried to hit him, and in an attempt to grab it, he (Katakyie) was hit and overpowered by the bishop.
According to him, he had to seek treatment abroad as a result and is expected to bring along with him documents of his visit to nice in France to support his evidence.
Shadrack Adu, the host of the programme, was the first to testify in the case but he later failed to appear to be cross-examined, so his evidence had to be expunged.
The suspects have been charged with unlawful entry, causing unlawful damage, causing harm, conspiracy to commit assault, assault and three additional counts.
They denied any wrongdoing and have been granted bail in the sum of gH¢10,000 with two sureties.
