Honourable Moses Addae Fofei, District Chief Executive of Sene West, has declared that the Assembly is in ‘crisis’ since government has failed to release the District Assembly Common Fund.
Hon. Fofie responding to allegations of mismanagement of assembly funds revealed that, government inability to release District Assemblies Common Fund for well-nigh three quarters and the use of Internal Generated Funds largely to solve security issues is the reason for the assembly financial difficulties.
Sene West curved out from the Sene District in the Brong Ahanfo Region have had security challenges after the death of Nana Yaw Nyarkoh II.
Nana Yaw Nyarkoh II the Omanhene of Kwame Danso the district capital died in 1998 of short sickness. His demise sparked a chieftancy dispute and created a lot of unrest and have since rendered the traditional council dysfunctional. The district capital has been without a chief for 14-yrs.
The youth has also blamed amongst other things the deplorable state of their roads, encroachment of state lands by individuals, activities of chainsaw operators and reckless filling of trees, severe unemployment and armed robbery to the absence of a chief or traditional ruler in the community.
They further alleged that sub chiefs or divisional chiefs have sold all lands meant for farming activities to chainsaw operators and prophesied that in the next decade there will be no land for farming activities in the district.
The case which is now with the Regional House of Chiefs in Sunyani involves one Dr. Nabi a tutor at Wesley College and Kwasi Donkoh the supposed ‘rightful’ candidate for the throne.
The District Chief Executive said the dispute is draining the coffers of the assembly.
Hon. Fofie explained that a very huge sum of money is spent on the security to ensure calm in the area since the inception of the traditional instability.
He continued albeit, the assembly does not meddle with Chieftancy affairs, he wants the case how complicated it is to be resolved to bring development to the area.
He asked for support and patience and advised people to eschew ‘baseless and unfounded allegations.’
