The new classroom block, INSET: the old structure
A six-unit classroom block, which was built in 1898 and inaugurated by Sir Gorden Guggisbeg, the then Governor of the Gold Coast, has been replaced with a modern classroom block with computer laboratory, offices, library, toilet and urinal.
The project, which cost the Techiman Municipal Assembly GH$290,000, was started in 2008 by the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
Cutting the tape to inaugurate the project, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Techiman, Philip Oppong Amponsah paid glowing tribute to his two predecessors, Prince Yaw Donyina and Alex Kyeremeh for starting the project, saying ‘governance is all about continuation like what you are witnessing today.’
He said in as much as government would continue to provide classroom blocks, parents, teachers and other stakeholders, should contribute their quota to the development of their areas.
According to Mr. Amponsah, parents should ensure that their wards attend school.
He said because Techiman boasts of one of the biggest markets in the West Africa, child delinquency had become worrisome.
He called on parents to stop focusing on the purchase of funeral cloths and others and invest in the education of their wards.
Mr. Amponsah said in this era of Information Technology Communication (ICT), Ghana cannot be sidelined.
He advised the teachers to take keen interest in the study of ICT so that they could impart their knowledge to the pupils.
The MCE also advised teachers of the school to shun absenteeism and give out their best in order to improve their lives.
Mr. Amponsah was full of praise for Alhaji Musah Asante, the contractor who executed the project.
He said even though the Municipal Assembly owed the contractor, when he (MCE) approached him to finish the project he obliged.
Comfort Yeboah of the Ghana Education Service, who spoke on behalf of the Municipal Director of Education, thanked the Techiman Municipal Assembly for the excellent work.
He charged the teachers to unite and give out their best to positively impact the pupils.
Mrs. Yeboah entreated parents and teachers to instill discipline into the pupils.
