Nana Akufo-Addo and the National Chief Imam have in separate statements expressed their condolences to the family of the late Maulvi Wahab Adam, the Ameer and Missionary-in-charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Ghana.

Nana Akufo-Addo, the 2012 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in a statement, said he was saddened by the news of the passing of a ‘great religious figure of our country, the Ameer and Missionary-in-Charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, Maulvi Dr. Wahab A. Adam.’

Ghana, he remarked, ‘is indebted to him for his many years of service and dedication to the country, and the profound contribution he made to its spiritual and moral welfare.’

He said he had a good personal and working relationship with the deceased when he was Attorney-General, adding, ‘I had the privilege of recommending him to President Kufuor for appointment as a member of the National Reconciliation Commission, which was set up to heal the wounds of the nation after decades of military rule.’

According to all accounts, he added, the late Maulvi Wahab excelled in the work of the Commission.’

The departed cleric, he said, invited him to a conference of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, which he described as an interesting experience.

Ghana, he said, has lost an illustrious son and sympathized with his family and all Ahmadi Muslims across the country and the world.

In a separate statement, the National Chief Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu described the late Maulvi Wahab Adam as an exemplary personality who worked tirelessly for the cause of Islam.

He said both of them had cultivated a wonderful personal relationship, which was beneficial to the image of Islam in the country.

He called on all Muslims to join him in praying for the soul of the good man.

He said the deceased served his Maker to the best of his ability by supporting the development of Islam in the country.

Ghanaians, especially Muslims, would always remember him for his contribution to the various facets of humanity, he stated.
