Nicholas N.Y. Dery, Director of Posts at the Ministry of Communications, has advised postal service operators within the sub-region to rekindle the spirit of good customer care to enhance their operations.

According to him, the advent of ICT has presented challenges to the postal sector the world over, especially Africa in terms of the volume of mails handled by postal administrators.

Mr Dery made this known at the opening ceremony of the Universal Postal Union EMS conference for Anglophone countries in Africa, which was held in Accra on Monday.

‘You should be ambassadors of your respective administrations since the survival of the postal service depends on how well we handle our customers.’

‘No company can grow its income if it cannot enhance its relationship with its valued customers. In the business world, customers are the kings and queens of the market; their decisions make and unmake our business and their recommendation upon a satisfactory transaction with counter operatives or managers are key to our survival in the face of seemingly stiff competition.’

Abdulai Rafiu, Managing Director of Ghana Post, in a remark, said in this competitive era of customer awareness and technological advancement, the customer has increasingly became aware of the alternative products and services available in the market place.

Customers, he stated, have also become aware of the potency of their products and services and it therefore behooves the postal agencies to treat customers with care.

‘Ghana Post, as a company, is striving to be more customer-oriented in all of its activities in order to improve the level of customer satisfaction.’

He urged participants to take advantage of the workshop to acquire skills to improve the level of customer experience of EMS clients in their respective countries.

Other dignitaries in attendance were EMS Regional Coordinator Africa, Awa Cisse, General Manager of EMS, Mails and Parcels, Bernard Yaw Atta- Sonno, among others.
