Pregnant Galore At BECE


The areas which DAILY GUIDE visited were Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, where eight girls had been put in the family way; Kwahu Asakraka in the Kwahu South District, three; Akim Oda Municipality, four and three in the Ayensuano District.

One 16-year-old boy of Nsawam Mehtodist Junior High School was reported dead before the examination commenced yesterday. Two girls were said to have fallen sick when they were writing the first paper (English Language), and had been admitted at a hospital for treatment.

According to information gathered, 41,632 candidates – made up of 22,312 boys and 19,320 – girls are writing the examination at the various centers in the Eastern Region.

Some of the invigilators who spoke to DAILY GUIDE intimated that none of the pregnant girls was precluded from taking part in the examination, and that there was adequate supervision at all the centers.

Some of the candidates told DAILY GUIDE after their first paper at the Suhum Senior High Technical School how adequately they had prepared for the examination, and said the paper was good for them.

The Acting Municipal Education Director, Mrs. Larbi, told this paper she was optimistic that the candidates would perform better this year, considering the time and energy put into preparing them by the various schools in the region.
