Love birds: My goal was for my future wife Fanny – Balotelli

Italy marksman Mario Balotelli has revealed that his winner against England on Saturday was for his future wife Fanny Neguesha.

Balotelli leapt at the far post to head in an Antonio Candreva cross to give the Azurri a 2-1 victory over the Three Lions on a humid night in Manaus.

The 23-year-old stole worldwide headlines last week for proposing to Fanny at the Italian team’s camp base in Brazil, to which she said yes.

“My goal is dedicated to my future wife who is here and my friends who are at home,” Balotelli told Gazzetta dello Sport after the game.

The AC Milan forward also expressed his delight at finally getting to feature in a World Cup game.

“I’ve never played a World Cup. It was my first World Cup match and it was a wonderful sensation to experience,” he said.

“It’s a unique experience.”
