Ghanaian tech startup launches ‘Dumsor’ app


A local technology startup KodeFusion GH has developed the first app that seeks to mitigate the effects of the power crisis, popularly called Dumsor, on Ghanaians.

The Dumsor mobile application is a flashlight application developed by KodeFusion GH, a technology startup company.

Dumsor mobile application works on cell phones with in built camera flash, running the android OS and converts the flash into a flashlight.

The app was named after the local term for power outage in Ghana which has become synonymous to every Ghanaian household. The app which was launched on 5th June 2014 and available on Google Playstore has received positive reviews and has seen increasing downloads since the launch.

Future updates of Dumsor includes ECG Load Management schedule where users will be notified when there will be power outage in their locality, automatic flashlight switch when power goes off based on time set etc.
