Emmanuel Opare, president of Golden Sunbeam International, has called for more entrepreneurial skills development programmes in schools to adequately prepare students for life.
Addressing parents and students of the school during its Silver Jubilee lately under the theme, ‘Re-defining Education,’ he said that such investment was worthy, explaining that the purpose of education is to help consolidate the confidence in an individual to solve problems or establish businesses for gainful employment.
The durbar was held at the Senior High School (SHS) Campus at Ayikuma in the Dangbe West district of the Greater Accra region.
Mr Opare cited Agricultural Business with specialty in General Agriculture and Aquaponics, Hospitality Management, Fashion and Event Planning as some key entrepreneurial programmes.
He said his school for instance has a cattle ranch and produces its own milk, poultry, geese and ostriches.
He mentioned that Golden SunBeam has Science and Information Communication Technology (ICT) laboratories equipped with the latest software and equipment, which give students the opportunity to explore.
Golden SunBeam, established 25 years ago, has become a centre for excellence.
The Deputy National Early Childhood Coordinator, Ghana Education Service, Doris Opoku, who represented the Minister of Education, said the advent of ICT education has led to a paradigm shift in people’s interests and therefore there was the need to redefine education.
She further said government was committed to a comprehensive programme of rapid development and utilization of ICT in the education sector to empower the lives of people.
Lt. Stephen Asante, who represented the Eastern Naval Command, commended the school for properly training the students.
