New Edubiase president has disclosed that all pre-match negotiations to get Hearts of Oak help them avoid relegation couldn’t materialize on Wednesday.
Hearts of Oak hosted New Edubiase on the last day of the league at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium, Accra and the Edubiase lads twice came from behind to snatch an important away point to avoid relegation, thus deny the Phobians the chance to secure a CAF Champions League slot.
Abdul Salam Yakubu has expressed how determined the Phobians were prepared to send them back to division one.
‘All attempts to get Hearts of Oak help us beat relegation couldn’t work out, so we all decided to enter the game with all the seriousness it required, he told Metro fm.
‘I am a Phobian, who has contributed immensely to the course of the club, but they didn’t look at some of these things to favour my club.
“The people of Bekwai have stopped watching our matches at Gyamfi Park, because they think we had the strength to beat Hearts of Oak in 2011, when they were placed 14th on the league log, but we allowed them to get away with a win and since then they no longer patronize our matches.
The president of the 2012 FA Cup winners has accused Hearts of pleading for his help when his team had a late minute penalty to make the scoreline 2-2, but he refused.
‘The Hearts of Oak fans sent messages to me that I should tell Asiedu Attobrah to deliberately miss from the spot kick, but I rather told him to score.
‘I needed their help and they refused but when I had the chance to deny them a champions slot they started pleading form my help.’
A win for the Phobians on Wednesday would have secured them a CAF Champions League slot, instead of a place in the CAF Confederations Cup.
