Shut-up pressmen: Ex-Blacks goalkeeper George Owu assaults journalist


George Owu goalkeeper for Sekondi Hasaacas has inflicted pains on a Sports journalist called Kwame Yeboah after confronting him.

Hasaacas on Sunday defeated Dwarfs by a  goal to nil at the Essipong Sports Stadium, but the man who ensured the away team were denied a goal was alleged to have slapped a journalist.

According to the Sky Power fm presenter,  George Owu confronted him during the post-match interview of the Hasaacas-Dwarfs game  and asked him why does he propagate negative agenda against him, so he decided to explain but by the time he realized the former Kotoko goalkeeper had slapped him.

‘Owu approached me and asked why do I always pass defamatory remarks about him, so I decided to reply him, but he slapped me unintentionally.

‘His palm is very big and at the same time he was in his hand gloves, so I really felt the pain. I have reported the matter to the police and I hope the right thing would be done to apprehend him, he told Metro fm.

However George Owu who earlier said he had no knowledge of such incident later admitted he confronted Kwame Yeboah to ask him some questions and there were no case of assault as claimed by the journalist.

‘I asked him why he usually plots negative things against me, but I didn’t assault him as he is claiming.

‘Let us drop this issue because it is a secondary matter to me, he said.

The ex-Black Stars shot-stopper has been in the new as one of the goalkeepers who have put up splendid performance in the local scene this season, thus people began to make case for his selection to the Black Stars, but missed out of the 26-man provisional list for the World Cup.

George Owu was part of the Black Stars team that made it to their maiden World Cup in 2006.
