Mauritius Vice Prime Minister pays a 3 day State visit to Ghana


H.E. Charles Xavier-Luc Duval, GCSK, Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Finance & Economic Development of the Republic of Mauritius is leading a high level business delegation for a 3-day state visit to Ghana from the 21st -23rd May, 2014.

The objective of the visit is to consolidate partnerships between the private of Mauritius and Ghana and to seek areas for further collaboration between Ghana and Mauritius. 

The visit will also enable the two countries to identify opportunities to define a roadmap for the development of nominal skills in the garment industry for young Ghanaian female porters to serve the Mauritian garment sector as well as launch a special collaboration between the Ghanaian and Mauritian Stock Exchanges.

Whilst in the country Mr Duval will pay a courtesy call on the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, hold meetings with some Ministers of State and the leadership of parliament as well as attend a business forum to be held at Labadi Beach Hotel, Accra on 22nd May, 2014 at 10:00am.

The business forum will present a common platform for the Mauritian delegation to engage the Ghanaian business community to discuss investment potential, JVs, strategic Alliances, Franchising and project financing in the following sectors:  banking, financial services, construction, textiles, ICT, insurance and agri-business. 

In all, 28 companies drown from the above mentioned sectors will attend the forum.

PROFILE OF XAVIER-LUC DUVAL
The Hon. Xavier-Luc Duval G.C.S.K. is the Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Economic Development of Mauritius. Appointed in August 2011, he was previously Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Social Integration and Economic Empowerment (2010-2011). Hon. Duval was Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism, Leisure and External Communications between 2005 and 2010.  He was also Minister of Industry, Commerce, Corporate Affairs & Financial Services between 1999-2000, and Minister of Industry and Tourism in 1995.

In 2012, Hon. Duval received the Distinguished Foreign Business Leadership Award by the Villanova Business School of the University of Villanova in Philadelphia, USA. The same year, he was also designated African Finance Minister of the year both by African Leadership Magazine and Africa Investor. In 2013, Hon. Duval was once again awarded the African Finance Minister title by Africa Investor.

In April 2014, Hon. Duval was awarded the Southern African Economic Development Champion Award by Africa Leadership Magazine and he also received the Special Commendation Award from the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus of Georgia General Assembly. This Special Commendation is the highest award presented by the Georgia Legislative body in honor of outstanding contribution and service to humanity. Hon. Duval was selected based on his outstanding contributions to the macro-economic stability, growth and national prosperity of Mauritius; and the creation and expansion of economic development opportunities for Africans.
