Banku-Powers Clash Date Changed Again

The Bukom Banku-Ayittey Powers clash has suffered yet another setback after two postponements earlier.

This time, the bout rescheduled for May 16, has been pushed forward to Thursday May 15 owing to a directive from the Ga Traditional Area, Alex Ntiamoah of Box Office Promotions, said.

Ntiamoah revealed that the decision to change the date was in adherence to the directives of the Ga traditional rulers on the one-month ban on noisemaking.

‘The new date for the fight now is May 15, a day before the original date, it’s a Thursday. We changed it because we want to respect the decision of our traditional leaders.

‘The venue remains the Accra Stadium, and for all those with tickets bearing the old dates -April 2 and May 16- they are still valid. It’s said if you know tradition, you don’t go against it,’ he added in an interview.

Earlier, the Ga Traditional Council issued a statement thus: ‘It is the time for the council to ban noise-making in the Ga state. Anyone who takes authority in his/her own hands will face the wrath of the Osu Traditional Council. We would not allow the bout to come off because it falls within the stipulated time.’

Originally, the fight was scheduled for April 2, but Ayittey Powers pulled out, citing spiritual instructions from his Godfather, Nigeria televangelist TB Joshua.

That forced the promoters, the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) and other stakeholders to arrive at a new date of May 16, for the much-talked about bout.
