Sir John Rides High

As the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) puts final touches towards Saturday’s congress at Tamale in the Northern Region, the race for the General Secretary position has been settled.

The incumbent, Mr. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, will definitely be retained as the scribe of the party.

Credible reports gathered by The Enquirer newspaper from various regions indicate that Mr. Afriyie, popularly called Sir John, would garner between 75% of the votes from the delegates.

Mr. Afriyie’s pole position stems form his relationship with the grassroots of the party. Unfortunately, some of the contestants challenging Mr. Afriyie are resorting to crude tactics after becoming fully aware of his chances.

In fact, a radio station under the guise of making analysis of all the candidates vying to become General Secretary, rather profiled some of the contestants and imperceptibly ran Mr. Afriyie down.

The situation angered some NPP young men who phoned into the station and registered their anger.

But, the campaign team of Mr. Afriyie has assured that they would not resort to uncouth tactics because its candidate is coasting to victory.

The affability of Mr. Afriyie is what has endeared the hearts of the delegates who want to retain him.

Again, they are rooting for him, as they see him as somebody who would take the party to the battle 2016 as most of the delegates feel that the NPP should not be entrusted into the hands of persons with ‘learners license.’

Some of the contestants and their emissaries peddled naked lies about Mr. Owusu Afriyie even before he declared his intention to seek re-election.

But, Mr. Afriyie and his team have not responded to false claims against him and have always insisted on clean campaigns.

He suspended campaign Tuesday this week indefinitely when one of his challengers, Mr. Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, was involved in a terrible accident on the Accra-Nsawam road while he was traveling to Kumasi.
