The Ghana Refugee Board has decided to halt food supply to three refugee camps in Ghana from March this year.
The Ghana Refugee Board made the decision after donor support from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNCHR) was reduced.
Refugees at the Ampain Refugee Camp in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region are unhappy about the decision to stop the monthly supply of food to the camp.
They say the termination of food supply to Ivorian refugees will only compound their already worsening living conditions.
Speaking to Citi News, some inmates at the various camps, indicated that though have they had been informed of the decision, they find it difficult to welcome the news.
The Ampain Refugee Camp Manager, Mr. Kerry Forson said although the news was disheartening it would serve as a means of equipping the refugees with employable skills
“There are other hot spots now, talk about the Central African Republic, the Mali situation is still on and it is the same resources that are being managed by the UNHCR that is being used for all these camps around. It is normal under the refugee management system that food stops then we move on from there, that is how to sustain the people,” he explained.
