John Mensah Set To Sign For Mystery Club In Weeks

Ex-Ghana captain John Mensah is expected to sign with a new club in Europe early next week, Ghanasportsonline.com can reveal exclusively.

The 31-year-old former Stade Rennes defender has been without a club since severing ties with the French side last year. The 2006 and 2010 World Cup star was rumoured to have signed for Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko but the deal turned out to be a hoax.

Ghanasportsonline.com sources indicates that the former Ghana skipper is expected to sign a deal after training with a club in the Slovakia top flight and another in Czech Republic. What is left now, Ghanasportsonline.com understands, is for the defender to finally make his choice of club and put pen to paper latest by next week.

A reliable source close to the ex-Lyon man told Ghanasportsonline.com “He spoke to the coach (Kwasi Appiah) and wanted to make his choice of the club to him, we are expecting him to sign in few days”.

John Mensah is a free agent after been released by Rennes and can move to any club of his choice as the Eastern European countries still have their transfer windows open.

John Mensah has confirmed that he is completely fit and is targeting a spot at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and coach Kwasi Appiah has made his intentions clear of how instrumental the experienced defender will be to his squad if he gets to play actively again.

The last time John Mensah wore a Black Stars jersey was August 15, 2012 in a friendly against China during which he aggravated his chronic back injury.
