The same God has given us the knowledge to use and so if you don’t use it, there is nothing prayer can do and no amount of fasting can stabilize this cedi”, words of a leading member of the opposition NPP when commenting on the prayer by Archbishop Duncan-Williams for the revival of the country’s falling currency.
According to Asamoah Gyamfi, though Ghanaians are thankful for the prayers, it is biblically wrong for the NDC government to sit idle in expectation to see a better change in the economy, since God in his wisdom instructed the Israelites to work before inheriting the land of milk and honey.
Archbishop Nicholas Duncan Williams, Presiding Bishop and General Overseer of the Christian Action Faith Ministries (CAFM) led his congregation to pray for the recovery of the ‘falling cedi’ last Sunday. In the prayer, he spiritually “commanded” the dwindling cedi to “rise” and also interceded for the Governor of Bank of Ghana (BoG) and President John Dramani Mahama.
Commenting on the issue, the NPP communicator averred on Okay Fm that the depreciation of the cedi has nothing to do with prayers except serious and proper management of the economy.
“The problem has to do with poor economic management from the government and this is the reality we must all accept as the true cause of the falling cedi and no prayers can save it…Dr. Bawumia warned that there are certain things which will show that the economy is deteriorating and this has to do with the depreciation of the cedi, high interest rate and excessive borrowing…..and so in this prayer, no command in Jesus’ name can make stabilized the cedi,” he pontificated.
