Newcastle and Sunderland hit by FA fines

The FA has charged both Newcastle United and Sunderland with failing to control their players during the Tyne-Wear derby at the Sports Direct Arena earlier this month.

The match saw Alan Pardew’s side score an injury-time leveller through Shola Ameobi to grab a point in the fiery affair.

Now Newcastle and Sunderland have been hit with £40,000 and £20,00 fines, respectively, after both clubs admitted the charge of failing to ensure that their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and refrained from provocative behaviour.

The incident in question involved both sides’ reactions to a challenge from James McClean on Danny Simpson in the 19th minute.

Both clubs have been warned about their future conduct.

Sunderland are 8/1 with Sportingbet to win the FA Cup this season.

Due to this being the second time that the Magpies have been charged with misconduct this season, they have been fined double that of their rivals.

During the bad-tempered derby the Black Cats had both Stephane Sessegnon and Lee Cattermole sent off whilst Newcastle had five players cautioned.
