He was understandably busy celebrating the biggest moment of his life on Sunday night after being crowned the winner of The X Factor.

So when James Arthur was forced to wake up early for a post-victory interview on ITV’s Lorraine in the early hours of Monday morning, he couldn’t resist sneaking in a few minutes of shut-eye before going on camera.

As Lorraine Kelly prepared to interview James, the cameras flashed to the green room, where the 24-year-old singer was seen fast asleep under the same coat he had been seen out partying in the night before.

Looking sheepish as he perked up later for the interview, James was asked by Lorraine if he had slept a wink after his win on Sunday night.

He said: ‘Maybe… I definitely haven’t had the most sleep I’ve ever had!’

The star partied into the early hours of
Monday morning in Manchester after beating fellow finalist Jahmene
Douglas to the crown with 53.7 per cent of the vote.

And James added to Jahmene that he still hasn’t come to terms with his victory.

That coat looks familiar! James was covered in the same grey coat he had been seen wearing while out celebrating his victory in Manchester on Sunday night

He said: ‘It hasn’t sunk in yet… I was very overwhelmed and I think that’s why
my reaction was so still. I couldn’t quite believe it. I actually
thought they said Jahmene!’

James’s interview came as he revealed he will insist on total creative control when it comes to his debut album – and he won’t be letting Syco boss Simon Cowell call the shots.

He told the Daily Mirror: ‘I will insist I have total control. I’ve
been given creative control throughout and I’ve been lucky to have my mentor Nicole Scherzinger as an ally who has helped me out when I have strongly disagreed
with stuff.’

Talking about his future music, James
insisted: ‘I have a feeling I will be able to call the shots. They don’t
mess with me, I’m a badass, me.’

In a later interview on This Morning, James added: ‘I
will definitely be having control. I will have creative control and
artistic license. If that’s not the case then I wouldn’t put anything
out that I don’t believe in.’

And
speaking about his hopes for the record, James said: ‘I think you’re
going to get a really honest piece of work. I have a lot to say, I have a
lot of lyrics about my journey in life.

‘I guess you’ll get a nice story and some nice melodies and something that’s easy on the ear, hopefully.’

Middlesborough-born
James also revealed he is planning to move to London ‘in the next
couple of weeks’, adding: ‘I’ve realised it’s definitely the place to
be.’

James’ winner’s single, a cover of Shonelle’s 2012 hit Impossible has already topped the iTunes chart at No.1.

However, perhaps in a sign of things to come, the singer admitted that he didn’t pick the song himself.

James’s single Impossible is out now, and all profits will go to Together For Short Lives, a charity that supports terminally ill children and their families.
