Keys members of the North East Forum for Unity and Development (NEFUD) have explained why they did not attend last Thursday North-east transformation summit, saying they did not attend it because they were not invited.
Many prominent northeast stakeholders, including former governors, serving ministers and prominent sons and daughters of the region, did not attend the transformation summit in Yankari last Thursday.
Chairman, NEFUD’s Publicity Committee Mr Timawus Mathias made the explanation while fielding questions from newsmen in Bauchi yesterday, saying “a forum that will tackle the socio economic and security challenges of the region is our baby project; we are interested in it and that was why we formed NEFUD after due consultations with all stakeholders”.
“But we did not attend the transformation summit under the auspices of northern alliance not because the governors did not attend our own summit; we did not attend it because the organizers of the event did not invite us”, he said.
Last October, one-time minister of establishment Alhaji Muhammadu Bello Kirfi in collaboration with northeast elders and leaders organized a summit for the transformation of the region which was attended by prominent sons and daughters of the region under the chairmanship of Alhaji Adamu Chiroma but governors from the area did not attend it, alleging that there was a hiding agenda behind the meeting.
