Special Voting TAKES Off

The special voting for Security Personnel and Electoral Commission staff who will be on duty on Election Day, December 7th, is still on-going across the country.

There will be voting in 41 centres in Greater Accra alone and voters will be voting for both Presidential and Parliamentary candidates.

The votes will however not be tallied today.

The security personnel include the staff of the Police Service, Ghana Armed Forces, Prisons Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service.

This year will be the first time Ghana is using a biometric register and Polling stations for this special exercise are located at designated points including police stations and the headquarters of the Immigration, Fire Service, Prisons and the Military.

Meanwhile, reports received indicate that though the process has been incident free so far, some persons cannot be identified by the biometric registration equipment.

At Sampa in the Jaman North District of the Brong Ahafo Region, some Immigration officers appear to be up in arms with the EC for refusing to allow them to vote.

The Immigration officers, who are 25 in number and stationed at the boarder town, have been turned away by the EC because their names could not be found in the voters’ register.

According to one of the officers who spoke to Election Headquarters, the EC says they should come and vote on December 7.
