Javier Balboa of Equatorial Guinea
The Democratic Republic of Congo added their name to the list of countries who will convene in South Africa for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations with a 5-2 aggregate win over Equatorial Guinea.
The Leopards lost the second leg 2-1 at the Nuevo Estadio de Malabo on Sunday night, but still qualified comfortably following their 4-0 home win in the first leg back in September.
Javier Balboa and Ben Konate found the back of the net for Equatorial Guinea but their attempts proved to be futile as the visitors struck back just before half time through Youssouf Mulumbu, before keeping their opponents at bay in the second half.
Balboa opened the scoring in the 23rd minute before Konate added a second twelve minutes later to give the hosts a glimmer of hope as they manage to cut the deficit in half.
However, Claude Le Roy’s men were able to respond through Mulumbu two minutes before the break, much to the disappointment of the home crowd who were looking forward to urging their side on in the second half.
Neither side was able to add to their tally after the break as the Congolese finished the match comfortably to qualify for the Nations Cup for the first time since 2006.
