The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge awoke in a secluded country inn on the morning of their first wedding anniversary.

The couple, who spent the previous day celebrating with some pals at the wedding of an old school friend of Kate’s, stayed at the 12th century inn close to the coast in Suffolk, eastern England.

The whole of the 34-bedroom Westleton Crown had been rented out for wedding guests. “They would have been familiar with everyone who was staying at the hotel,” an excited hotel source says.

William and Kate stayed in The Swan room (usual cost: £165 a night) and arose to have breakfast with other guests. While sources at the hotel will not say what the couple ate, the usual menu includes mouth-watering locally-produced sausages, bacon or salmon and scrambled eggs, or a selection from the buffet.

And after that? “They left after breakfast to get on with the rest of their anniversary,” the source says.
