Ghana: TDC Donates Books to Schools in Tema

The Tema Development Corporation (TDC) has donated 70,000 copies of branded exercise books to the three directorates of education in the Tema acquisition area.

The book donation is part of the Corporation’s social responsibility programme for its 60th Anniversary celebrations. The beneficiary directorates are from Tema, Ashaiman and Krowor.

Making the presentation, the Managing Director of TDC, Joe Abbey, commended the three directorates for their contribution to the growth of the education sector in the Tema area.

He noted that education was such an important sector that it required the assistance of well-meaning Ghanaians to support teaching and learning efforts in this country.

He said the TDC was concerned about the education of children in its communities of operation, and would, therefore, continue to support the directorates in any way possible, to ensure that the children of Tema take advantage of education to become socially-responsible adults in future.

Mr. Abbey noted that it was for this reason that the Corporation held a quiz competition for selected second cycle schools and, among others, donated laptops, water dispensers, and 10,000 exercise books to the schools.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Tema Metropolitan Director of Education, Mr. Kwesi Hutchful, commended the TDC for supporting the recently held Teachers’ Day Awards, and for again, extending such assistance to the schools.

He expressed the hope that the Corporation would make this a regular feature and continue to extend such support for the development of schools in Tema.
