ASIS Opens Ghana Chapter

The American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) International, the most respected security organisation globally, recently launched its Ghana chapter at a colourful ceremony in Accra.

ASIS Ghana, tagged the 278th , received the final approval to operate in the country on September 9, 2011 and formally inaugurated on 6th July, 2012 at Golden Tulip Hotel.  

Syl Juxon Smith, an international security consultant and the co-CEO of TransAfrica2000, Ghana/UK, who is president of the new chapter, in a speech, pointed out that the chapter has so many activities lined up to benefit both existing and prospective members.  

Otto Walter Sloane, a former security professional with Newmont Ghana, mooted the idea of forming the Ghana Chapter since 2008 and helped in many ways to ensure its birthing.

Other executives of the chapter are Lawrence Ntim Gyakari – 1st vice president; Major (rtd) Kwame Keddey, 2nd vice president; Alex Acquaye, Secretary and Isaac Barnie Awuah, Treasurer.

In an interview with this paper, Mr Smith noted: “The chapter is bent on ensuring an increase in the membership drive with an eye for more serving or retired law enforcement agencies and professionals.

“Benefits available to ASIS Ghana Chapter members include networking, employment opportunities and enhancing one’s professional capabilities, among others.”

ASIS International is the best recognized security organization in the world with around 38,000 members made up of security professionals from around the globe. 

Founded in 1955, ASIS is dedicated to increasing the effectiveness and productivity of security professionals by developing educational programmes and materials that address broad security interests.

ASIS International has three main categories of educational certification programmes such as the Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Professional Certified Investigator (PCI) and the Physical Security Professional (PSP), as well as other specific security topics.
