Castle holds Memorial Service for Mills

Government officials and dignitaries gathered at the gardens of the Osu Castle, the seat of government to mourn the late President Mills who passed on a exactly a week ago.

The atmosphere at the Castle gardens was a solemn one with all the sympathizers clad in red or black outfits to symbolize their grief.

According to Joy FM’s Presidential correspondent Seth Kwame Boateng, the event was attended by hundreds of high ranking officials including the former first couple, Mr. and Mrs. Rawlings, past and current government officials, Africans from the Diaspora.

Although the President John Dramani Mahama was present at the memorial service, he did not feature on the programme line-up.

Rev. Amoo-Darku, Castle Chaplain and a close aide of the late President said the opening prayer after which the Castle Choir sung their hearts out in songs that left most dignitaries gathered sombre.

Commodore Steve Obimpeh, did the first Bible reading, while Sherry Ayittey, Minister for Environment and Science, did the second Bible reading.

The Secretary to the late President, Kwame Bebaako Mensah concluded the Bible reading.

The funeral of the late President has been slated for August 8-10.
