CBN, Lagos partner on e-payment workshop

The Lagos state office of the Auditor-General for local government is collaborating with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to organize a two day workshop on e-payment.

The workshop will involve public sector and local government functionaries across the state such as Council chairmen, council managers, education secretaries of local government education authorities, secretaries, pension board, local government council treasurers, paymasters, heads of accounts of local government education authorities and local government pension board. Banks and CBN approved solution providers are been encouraged to also attend to showcase their end to end e-payment solutions to the audience.

According to the head of planning, research and development Lagos State office of the Auditor-General for Local Government, Mr. Adeniji Salami “In view of the cashless policy by the CBN, the fact is that e-payment is new and alien to our economy and there could be some risks associated with the practice. So we don’t want the local government officials to run the risk of huge losses due to lack of knowledge and understanding”.

He further stated that the state office of the Auditor-General for the local government is collaborating with the CBN to sensitize and enlighten the people on the workings of e-payment “we are doing this to enlighten our people to understand the rudiments and workings of cashless policy, e-payment systems and how it could assist us in our duties”.

The event is themed as ‘the workings of electronic payment/cashless policy for public sector functionaries, Local governments and Local government education authorities in Lagos state’.

The event is scheduled to hold on the 13th-14th of June with the Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos state on taxation and revenue Hon. Abimbola Shodipo as the guest of honour and Permanent Secretary/Auditor –General for Local Government Lagos state as the chief host.
