Adams to multinationals: Move your hqtrs to areas of operation

Sapele—Multinational oil companies operating in the Niger Delta have been urged to relocate their headquarters to their areas of operation to improve the lives of the coastal people, who have suffered years of neglect and economic degradation as a result of oil exploration.

Delta State Special Project Director, Chief Otimeyin Adams, gave the charge while addressing journalists in Sapele, Sapele Local Government Area of the state,  hours before he was conferred with the chieftaincy title of Ojoye of Warri Kingdom by His Magesty, Ogiame Atuwatse II, the Olu of Warri.

Adams noted that it became pertinent to draw the attention of the multinationals on the need to relocate their headquarters to their areas of operation so that they  would complement efforts of the South- South governors in their efforts to create jobs for the youths and enabling business environment in the area, for investors.

He said it was unfair for the people, who have the soil from where oil was drilled by the multinational companies, to surfer endless economic setbacks, social degradations and poor health occasioned by years of water pollution from oil spillage, while those areas with no oil are enjoying the fruit of oil exploration.

Chief Adams called on the South-South states and Federal Government to enact enabling laws, which would compel the oil companies  to relocate their headquarters to the Niger Delta to cushion the effect of unemployment in the area.
