Mbaise Lions, owned by former Eagles striker Benedict Akwuegbu, are through to the semi-finals of the Imo State Federation Cup after a 2-0 win over Ansfed Saturday.

They will now clash with Pakat FC for a place in the state final.

Skipper Chubuzor Oguledo fired Mbaise Lions ahead after 62 minutes. It was a fantastic goal by the 15-year-old talented central midfielder.

The Lions, who are handled by former Plateau United and Dolphin coach Ndubuisi Nduka, doubled their advantage on 70 minutes through Kisito Osuji.

Akwuegbu, who was last week appointed assistant general manager of NPL side Heartland, said Mbaise Lions is his own token contribution to the development of the game in Nigeria.

“I want to teach them some of the tricks I learnt while I was playing in Europe,” Akwuegbu said.
