Corey Feldman dedicated his Dancing On Ice performance to late actor River Phoenix.
In honour of ‘Movie Week’, the skating hopeful performed with professional partner Brooke Castile to the title track of 1986 film Stand By Me – in which he co-starred with Phoenix.
Despite Feldman’s poignant tribute to his friend, the Gremlins child star scored a disappointing 8 out of a possible 30, making him slide into bottom position on the judge’s leaderboard.

However, he was the first name to be called during the skate-off show, which saw children’s television presenter Mark Rhodes voted off after competing against Charlene Tilton.
During the pre-recorded training
session, Corey, 40, was immediately reminded of of River when Jayne
Torvill and Christopher Dean revealed what song he would be performing
to.

He said: ‘It makes me think of River, so I will dedicate this performance to him.’
The Hollywood veteran also spared no
modesty when it came to dancing, saying: ‘I think as a dancer, I’m one
of the best there is. I was friends with Michael Jackson and we used to
dance together.’
Although despite his best efforts of
hip-shaking and pelvis-thrusting on the ITV1 live show, while lighting
up the rink in purple sequins, he scored three points less than last
week’s 11.

After the performance, Feldman referenced Phoenix again, saying: ‘During the choreography I thought of River a lot. It was very heartwarming for me. I’m very disappointed with the score.’
Stand By Me was a cult film of the
Eighties, based on Stephen King’s novel The Body, in which a group of
four young boys try to locate a dead teenager.

Phoenix,
who was 16 when he starred with Feldman, died in 1993 following a drugs
overdose at The Viper Room, a Hollywood night club partly owned at the
time by actor Johnny Depp.
Judge
Robin Cousins offered little encouragement, saying: ‘The Jackson moves
were cool, but it feels like you’re walking on the ice, not gliding.’
And fellow panellist Katarina
Witt said: ‘This is not your playground, so you definitely need the
audience to stand by you,’ referring to Corey’s place in the bottom two
last week against Laila Morse.

Joint first: Matthew Wolfenden scored the same as Jorgie Porter, with 21.5
Host
Phillip Schofield joined in the fun by channelling his inner Playboy and
sporting a false strand of hair to mimic Corey’s and also a pair of
sunglasses.
On the other side of the spectrum, talented skaters Matthew Wolfenden and Jorgie Porter catapulted to joint first position with an impressive score of 21.5.
