Johannesburg – Two men were arrested following an attempted robbery of a pension pay-out point in Eshowe, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Friday.
On Friday morning, pension money was being dispensed at Bhekemehlweni Hall when five men arrived and shot at security guards, Colonel Jay Naicker said in a statement.
“The security guards returned fire and the robbers fled empty handed. Two security guards as well as a community member were wounded during the shoot-out.”
Eshowe police tracked down and arrested two men and recovered the getaway vehicle.
“Three other suspects fled on foot and we are confident that they will be arrested soon.”
Two men, aged 24 and 46, were charged with attempted robbery and attempted murder and would appear in the Eshowe Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
