VVV-Venlo have confirmed that they have sold Ahmed Musa to CSKA Moscow for a fee of €5 million.
The 19-year-old winger has impressed for the De Koel outfit since making his first-team debut back in October 2010, and has broken into the Nigeria senior squad, winning 12 caps.
The news was confirmed on the Dutch side’s official website; the African winger will move to the Arena Khimki with immediate effect.
The teenage startlet feels that it is an important move in his fledgling career, and is looking forward to getting started with his new club.
“This is the next step in my career,” he told Venlo’s official site.
“When I arrived in Venlo a year and a half ago, I didn’t dare to dream I would earn this transfer this soon. I’m very happy VVV gave me the chance to show the world what I can do.
“Now I can do that on a bigger stage. The club, the people and the fans in Venlo have always been good to me. I will never forget that,” he added.
Musa follows in the footsteps of Keisuke Honda, who traded Venlo for CSKA in a €6m deal back in December 2009, and the Dutch club’s president Hai Berden is proud to once again have nurtured young talent.
“With his transfer to this Champions League club he is making a big leap in his young career. I’m convinced he will do even better there,” Berden commented.
“We’re glad we were able to enjoy him and his skills in Venlo and that our club is once again a stepping stone towards a big European club.”
