Port Harcourt— Nigeria Navy has set up a department of Civil Military Affairs to enhance its relationship with the civilian populace.
Speaking at the opening of a workshop at the Naval Shipyard, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Rear Admiral D. Boer, Admiral Superintendent, Naval Shipyard, said the Navy would not succeed without input from civilians.
He enjoined members of the public with useful information that would assist effective naval operations in the Niger Delta to furnish the service with same.
He said, the public should see the military as its own force, noting that the military is a servant of society.
He said the Naval shipyard maintains a healthy civil relationship with its host communities.
Some members of the host communities, who spoke on how to improve civil/military relations, blamed ratings and juniors in other military outfit for frictions witnessed sometimes. They called on senior officers to ensure their juniors were properly briefed on civil military relations.
